About

My name is NIÑA ROSARIO SANDEJAS and I work in anything and everything that has to do with music.

I started in the industry as a fashion stylist for musicians. I first started working as Rivermaya’s personal stylist in 2004. I was still a freshman year taking up Fashion Design and Marketing.

In 2005, I was hired by The Dawn’s drummer and worked as their personal stylist. It only lasted less than a year due to my work on full feature films, the first one being Tulad Ng Dati in 2006. I once again became Rivermaya’s stylist in 2007, helping the band during the days of finding a new vocalist until shooting the video for their first two singles. I have also styled other bands in the scene for their photoshoots and music videos as well as editorial work for numerous magazines.

Documenting my work as a stylist made me realize I would need more than a mere point and shoot camera since I found out that live photography wasn’t an easy task. I’ve always loved taking random photographs since highschool and used a 35mm instamatic film camera. It’s great for candid shots, but not really good for concerts. So in 2004, I started to use my dad’s old Olympus OM-1 MD with a 50mm 1.4 Zuiko lens for a couple of shows.

I finally bought my first digital SLR in 2005 and have been taking photos professionally ever since. Touring with bands gave me the practice I needed since I would get sick of their faces on the same photo over and over, I tried to find ways to make my photos different each time.

Apart from numerous bands in the Philippine scene, I’ve taken live concert shots of British groups MUSE and RAYGUN, NOFX, Nine Inch Nails, Saosin, Plus/Minus, Singapore’s Electrico, Great Spy Experiment & Caracal. King Lychee (Hong Kong), Jazz artists such as Scott Henderson, Dennis Chambers, Jeff Berlin, John Scofield and Joe Lovano.

In 2007, I was and still am honored to be chosen as one of 22 photographers (from more than three thousand global participants) by JPG Magazine to participate in their “Breakthrough” exhibit held at the San Francisco Arts Commission Gallery.

Sometimes I travel abroad to review concerts or interview musicians and my photos and articles on music and fashion have been published in several local magazines. I have a monthly column called “One Hip Wonder” for PULP Magazine and I also write about music and fashion for London-based E-zine (London Meets Manila).

I’m constantly on tour in search of good music across Asia.
